Olivia Strange’s practice is multi-disciplinary spanning sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, moving image and poetry. Her works are characterised by a layered narrative which explores themes of female desire, notions of the ‘exotic’ and power-play whilst probing the uneasy intersection between fantasy and reality. Strange is concerned with identifying and deconstructing accepted oppressive patriarchal descriptors and stereotypical identities that are inscribed in everyday materials, colours, objects and emblems.
Olivia Strange completed a Master of Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2016 with Distinction. Recent exhibitions include ‘Every Woman Biennial’, New York, 2021, ‘Instructions for Waiting’, Liminal Gallery, London, 2021, ‘CARE DON’T CARE’, Basis Projectraum, Frankfurt, Germany, 2021 and ‘Cacotopia,’ Annka Kulty’s Gallery, London, 2017.
